How time flies! Another year has passed and it was time for Racial Harmony Day again. Last year's Racial Harmony Day 2011 was so much fun!
Sis actually bought a traditional Korean outfit for Jolie a few months back, but it doesn't make sense for me to dress Jo up in a Korean outfit. She's not Korean! So once again I dress her up in her traditional Chinese outfit that she wore for CNY.
This year, Cobby had the opportunity to come together as it was the same day as my prenatal appointment with Dr Judy Wong. The party's much bigger this year too as the teachers combined both classes together. But unlike last year, Jolie was more than happy to join in the festivities instead of freaking out at the door.
Jolie got a seat next to her current best friend, Fizanah. Once at the playground, Jolie actually called another girl Fizanah just because she's dark skin too. Haha... I have to correct her that not all dark skin girls are called Fizanah.
Jojo with her Papa...
Jojo with her teacher...
Jojo with her Mama...
The party started out with a national anthem, the reciting of the pledge, followed by some inter-racial fun facts exchange. Some Indian moms shared with us interesting facts on their traditional outfits and the marks on their face. While some was super brave to sing traditional songs!
After that the kids did a little song and dance. My little Jojo is such a good dancer! (^,^)
Followed by a pot-luck party! This year we have 2 Muslim girls, so they had to put up a Halal section for food. I thought it would be nice to contribute to the Halal section, so I bought some Halal frozen dim sum and lotus buns and steamed them in the morning.
After we've ate, some of us went back inside to enjoy the other activities, such as henna drawing.
The kids enjoyed playing with some traditional games too, such as skipping, hula hoops or just dancing around to the music.
One of the Malay grandmother even brought her Congkak, a traditional Malay game.
Another nostalgic item was the blow up bubble paste that we used to play as a child. Cobby complained that it's pretty toxic and shouldn't let Jolie play, but hey, we grew up playing that all the time and we turned out ok right? Besides, these playthings are slowly going extinct in our lives. If we don't share with Jolie a little part of our past, it would probably be gone by the time she grows up.
It was a great party, Jolie had a really good time. This would be the last time she would be celebrating Racial Harmony Day with her playgroup. I wonder how much of these precious years would she even remember?
