One evening, Jolie wanted something but nobody seemed to understand what was it. It took awhile, but after several minutes of Jolie giving specific instructions on where she should stand and what everyone should do, we realised that she had arranged her own orchestra!

团圆饭2012
Another year has passed and it's once again time for our reunion dinners. This year, Sis came back from Hong Kong to celebrate CNY with us. But Bro on the other hand, had travelled to Hong Kong with his wife and in-laws for CNY. -_- Last year, the whole house was filled with children as sis-in-law brought her niece and nephew over. A family friend also came over with her 3 kids, so it was quite a lively evening. :)
This year we were doing lunch, and it's only my new family, my parents and my sister and brother-in-law. So it was a rather peaceful afternoon as we laze around while my parents cook up a storm in the kitchen. Cobby reads the papers, Bro-in-law played with his iPhone and Sis brought out her calligraphy set. We started to write some auspicious wordings and Jo wanted to try too, so we let her fool around with the ink. We asked her for some numbers, but she doesn't know how to write yet, so I gave her a calender and let her choose. :P
As usual, parents cooked too much food, but I guess it's also an auspicious sign of abundance. "吃不完,吃不完" But we weren't complaining! The food was delicious and decadent!
Even though we were screaming how full we were, after the meal we sat down on the table and started munching on pineapple tarts. Haha... This year we have my Sister's tarts and mine, so Dad and Cobby had to keep munching one after another to decide who's was better. For me, I had to check out the competition right? :P So Dad chose Sis's tarts (Cuz the skin was thinner) while Cobby insisted that mine was better. But everyone agreed that both tasted delicious.
We had our round two reunion dinner with my in-laws. Last year we ate steamboat, but this year Cobby decided to pamper ourselves with a fancy dinner at Jing Restaurant at the beautiful One Fullerton.
Notice that I didn't post ANY photos of the meal? That's because THEY SUCK! OK, to be honest, they don't taste terrible, but for the price we were paying, about S$500+, we were expecting a dining experience nearing, I SAID NEARING HOR, NOT EXPECTING TO BE EXACTLY BUT NEARING ENOUGH to the Tung Lok Signatures dinner we ate in 2009. Thinking about it made me smile.... :P~~
It's about S$100 cheaper, but the difference was unbelievable. The damn S$500+ meal at Jing was comparable to, no, I think a meal at Crystal Jade would be more enjoyable. It's so ordinary, so plain and boring. Other than some expensive ingredients, I couldn't figure out why the meal is so expensive. The rent I guess. Don't eat there. Seriously.
So we finished our unimpressive dinner. Thankfully, the place was situated at an awesome location and the rain stopped just as we finished so we could go walk around and take photos.
As usual, Jolie was excited and uncontrollable. We I, have to keep yelling at her not to run around the wet and slippery floor. She was throwing tantrums and not cooperating when taking photos, etc. Sigh, sometimes I get so tired yelling at her, unfortunately no one else would take over the job. So I have to take on the role of the irritating, stern, over controlling mother who wouldn't stop yelling at her child.
So anyway, we took some photos after much yelling. The girl just wouldn't look at the camera! She's like those 50s women who would look into the distance when they take photos. Why?
So later we headed back to MIL's place and Jolie got into her new PJs! As usual, she got her 压岁 ang pao at the end of the day. So lucky!
So the day ended and we went home with a VERY FULL BELLY. Argh, think need to go easy for the next few days. Eh, cannot hor, tomorrow would be the start of CNY! Nevermind, we'll diet when it's over. Heehee...

Bling Bling Nails!
Made an appointment with Zinc to do manicure for CNY. Gosh, looking back at my old blog entries, I think the last time I did acrylic nails was before my wedding in 2007!!! So long never "bimbo" already, time to pamper myself! So I dropped Jo at my Mom's place and went to her place. It was nice, we sat and chatted for hours while she did my nails. After a few hours, this was the result!
Notice that the last nail is chipped? Yah, the VERY NEXT DAY I decided to clean the windows and knocked my nail onto the side of the window frame. ARGH! Zinc told me to just file it flat with a normal nail file and I fixed it alright. Anyway, it was very amusing as the nails were quite long. So I had to hold the window wiper like a bimbo. Haha, very hard to explain but I just find it funny. I can't even open a drink can as I fear it would break my nails. OMG I even SOUND like a pampered bimbo princess! Hahaha...
Anyway, I really loved my bling bling nails. It's so pretty, I keep staring at it! Thanks Zinc! *MUACK*

Ballet Lessons!
There was a ballet lessons promotion from Kinderdance, so we decided to sign Jolie up for it. She always loved to dance! Besides, the lessons would be conducted at the Temasek Club, so we can relax at the clubhouse during her class! Cool! So one weekend we bought Jo a whole set of ballet outfit from Costumes Connection. The lady there was very knowledgeable and professional. I like. :)
There was a Caucasian mum there with her teenager daughters, shopping for ballet clothes. They were definitely more pro, trying on the real ballet shoes and testing it by doing tiptoes. Jo was mesmerised by all the jie-jies! When Jo tried on the whole outfit, I wanted to cry. She's grown into such a pretty little girl! One moment she's in my arms, fragile as a flower, next moment she's in a ballet outfit, so pretty and shy. She was beaming in delight at her new clothes and I know that she's gonna love her lessons.
On the actual day, we had a real fun time watching her. As usual, she was living in her own world. She would dance and jump around, not listening to most of the instructions, which was quite amusing. But seriously, I don't think the two teachers have much experience teaching young toddlers. They are so young, soft spoken and I feel like they don't know how to engage the children. Most of the time the children were not even listening to them. So I would have the strong urge to jump in and take over the lesson. Haha...
But most importantly, Jolie had a great time there, and would look forward to going to class. So even though we would not continue another session after this ends, I think it's money well spent if she's enjoying it.

Awesome pineapple tarts 2012
I am so awesome. This is the 2nd year I'm making my closed pineapple tarts. Last year, I made it into rabbit shapes. This year is the year of the dragon, but I don't know how am I supposed to make my tarts into dragons, so I've decided to simply things and just make smaller balls.
On the first attempt, I used the old method using the pastry cutter, and it turned out ok. But on the 2nd attempt, I tried using a blender instead, and it was PERFECT! It must be the best pastry I've ever made. The texture was just perfect, and the result?
Best.Tarts.Ever.
I swear it's better than what they are selling outside! The pastry is buttery, not too sweet and literally melts in your mouth! The pineapple filling is slight tangy, so it taste very well balanced. Haha, it was so good, I actually asked mom to give me back the 1st batch so that I could give her the newer and better version. The only "tsk" thing is that I just can't seem to find a nice way to put the tarts in the container! No matter how I adjust, they still looked messy. Aiyah forget it, I'll just say it's rustic and looks home-made. :D
So in total I've made about 120 tarts. 30 for my mom, 30 for my MIL, and the rest for myself. I am awesome! :)

CNY Shopping with parents
Every year I would bring my parents to go shopping for CNY clothes. This year we headed out to Orchard road cuz Cobby wanted to go to H&M. I think if someone didn't go to Orchard road for a long time, they would be shocked by all the new developments. I usually travel there by car with Cobby, so we would stay at one spot only. A few days ago, I went there by train by myself and even I was surprised by all the new buildings and shops as I roamed Orchard road on foot. Haha, so 山龟!(SuaKu)
When we were there with parents, I was able to act all pro and nonchalant, like an ambassador. And it was parent's turn to be all impressed and Suaku. Hehehe...
Anyway, we managed to find some nice tops for Dad at Robinsons. At H&M, Cobby found a nice pair of jeans while dad got a great deal buying a stylish sweater for cooler weathers in Hong Kong.
We walked all the way from Centre Point to Wisma, which was almost the whole length of Orchard road. I was so tired! When we reached Wisma, parents suggest that they just take the train home from there. I think that's smart, cause by the time we walked all the way back to the car at the other end of Orchard road, parents should be half way home already. My feet was all sore! But it was a pretty fruitful day. I think we should just leave the car at home next time.

Jacob's Full Month Party
The party was in the evening, so in the morning, I decided to change the wall decal in Jolie's room. The monkey on the wall was starting to look a little sad. The daily sunlight had made the colours fade, so it's time to brighten up her wall!
We've actually bought this mermaid decal a looong time ago, about the same time as the monkey! But we didn't know where to stick them, so we just kept it. When I took it out, naturally Jolie wanted to do it too. Well, it is her room, so I peeled for her and let her decide where to place them. (with some of my gentle suggestions of course) And the result was fantastic! Jolie now have an underwater world next to her bed!
It was a Saturday, so we left Jo at my Mom's place while we went out. In the late afternoon, we picked her up, all showered and dressed up!
The party was at some condo near the city, so we used our GPS to lead us there. Unfortunately, the STUPID GPS lead us to the street right next to the condo and happily announced that we "have arrived at your destination". WTF?! We're on a highway!! Thankfully we have another GPS lady in the car, ME! I recognised the codo as we drive pass it quite often and managed to find the entrance. The situation was pretty hilarious anyway.
So we got to the condo and had a great time catching up with old friends. Jolie had a even a greater time playing with one of my friend's 2 girls. They we screaming and laughing like mad. When they got tired of staying in the hall, Cobby decided to bring all 3 girls outside to play. I think he must have regretted it a little as the girls stressed him out by running all over the place. Thankfully nobody fell into the pools. :P He was pretty tired when he got back, the 3 energizer bunnies sure did tire him out. Hahaha...
Poor Jacob mama was so busy entertaining all her guests that she didn't have much chance to sit down with us. But it's normal. During Jolie's full month party, I didn't have much chance to talk to my friends too. It was a very nice party, more like a gathering actually.
Wishing Jacob to grow up strong and healthy, handsome and smart too!

Bee Attack!
It was another ordinary day. Jo has just woke up from her nap and I've finished making dinner. So we headed downstairs to the playground. We were hanging around the exercise area near the void deck when I suddenly noticed that there were dead bees all over the floor! What happened?
It felt very eerie and I had a bad feeling, so I grabbed Jolie and started to walk away. Just as we were leaving, two bees appeared in front of us and one of them landed on Jolie's shorts. O_O Immediately my maternal instinct kicked in and I forgot that I'm terrified of bees. I squat down and very slowly removed Jolie's shorts. Once the shorts were off, I grabbed Jolie's hand and ran like the wind, while frantically waving her shorts in the air, hoping the stupid bee would be gone. Meanwhile Jolie was squealing in delight, laughing like mad, thinking that I'm playing with her.
For me, the nightmare had just begun. I keep hearing this horrible loud buzzing sound and it wasn't until I've reached the void deck did I realise that the horrible sound came from my head.
THE BEE IS ON MY HAIR!!!! OMG!!!
I quickly removed my hair clip and hair band and started shaking my hair like a mad woman. OMG OMG what do I do? I don't dare to touch my hair, so how do I get the bloody monster out? Meanwhile the horrible buzzing continued, so loud near my ears! Finally the bee found it's way out my hair, but it has decided that I'm a threat now, and hovered around me, finding a way to attack me.
In my frantic state of screaming and jumping, I was vaguely aware that there was a man sitting at the void deck chair and two mail ladies, staring at me. I felt so helpless, why can't they help me?! One of the lady asked me what happened in an astonished voice. "A BEE!!!" That was all I could say. Isn't it bloody obvious? Just as the words left my mouth, I felt the bee land on my shoulder and a second later, the inevitable sting. The damn bee left a sack at the end of the sting, pumping venom into my shoulder, so I quickly pinched it out. But the bloody thing is so fine, the stinger was left stuck under my skin.
Now that it's over, I refocused my attention back to my daughter, who was standing there in her panty, bewildered. I put on her shorts with shaky hands and contemplated on whether to go playground or not. I'm in shock, but she wanted to go, so I walked there with wobbly legs and let her go play while I try to calm my senses down. When the adrenaline has subsided, the pain kicked in. Now I know what's the big deal about bee stings.
IT BURNS! OUCH! PAIN!
It's very painful, and it it just keeps on hurting non stop. I want to cry, what if I'm allergic? Am I going to start foaming at the mouth and drop dead? Should I go see a doctor? I hesitated for a long while before heading there, but the pain started to slowly fade away while I wait, and I just feel so stupid to see a doctor for one bee sting. So I left just before it was my turn to see the doc. :P
So that was my very first bee sting. And for the next few weeks I was mentally scarred. I jumped at the sight of any flying insect, and even when there aren't anything flying around, my eyes are constantly roaming around, on alert. Even now, I quiver at the memory of the buzzing sound. Bees, scary stuff. ;(
